Lavasa - A Man Made Paradise
Hill-station tourism is not new for Indians who enjoy the cold weather at locations such as Darjeeling, Shimla, Ooty or Nainital during Summer. These towns, for over 100 years, have been looked at as India’s prime hill stations necessarily promoted and developed by the British rulers.
Over the next 10 years, another name might well be added to this list, which is 12,500-acre huge ‘Lavasa lake city’, being developed by Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) near Pune within the Western Ghat ranges. Promoted as free India’s first planned hill station, Lavasa lake city, will be ready as a complete town with a population of 1.5 lakh.
Lavasa Corporation Limited was formed to undertake a large-scale
lifestyle development in India. Lavasa is a hill city, being built around 12,500 acres, nestled amongst the majesty of Sahyadri Mountains along the contours of the Warasgaon Lake. It is based on the principle of New Urbanism and is said to have an eco friendly town planning done by HOK, USA. It is 45 minutes from Pune and 3 hours drive from Mumbai.
Lavasa lake city is a Rs. 1400 billion project led by Hindustan Construction Company (HCC). Evolving over a 12 year period, 4 towns will be built which will together comprise Lavasa. First of these towns, Dasve, is scheduled to be completed till 2010. Lavasa plan also include a wide range of residential and commercial facilities, tie-ups with premier national and international educational institutes, a plethora of well strategized business opportunities with a range of non polluting industries setting up premises, an extensive range of tourist attractions and family entertainment opportunities. Over 25,000 lake side apartments and villas will be created. The project is expected to create over 50,000 job opportunities.
